About me

Sheila at Callaway GardensHello, I’m Sheila Larsen and I live, write, and garden on 1/4 of an acre in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. My husband, the non-gardener, and my two beautiful sons try to help me along my horticultural journey. Along with my garden writing I have also started a comedy blog called Redhead Laughter.

I am a native Atlantan and I’ve been gardening all my life. My earliest memories are helping my father in his vegetable garden. I grow vegetables as well, but mostly I grow ornamental plants. I am a past member of the Atlanta Bonsai Society and I’m still very passionate about bonsais.

Lately, however, I’ve been most interested in container vegetable gardening. Our red clay soil can get as hard as a concrete block in our heat and humidity so I’m trying to see how many veggies can successfully be grown in containers.

I grow roses, flowers, trees, shrubs, blueberries, strawberries, figs, lemons, tomatoes, peppers, beans, and an occasional melon. And, of course, I grow a lot of herbs. All my plants are grown organically with natural fertilizers and no sprays.

I post once a week on Thursdays or Fridays. I also regularly post on my Twitter account.

I hope you will join me on my horticultural journey and I encourage you to check out Redhead Laughter – we all need a laugh now and then.
